Now we watch how the islands drift on the Oder river and how the plants planted on the platforms grow.
On Thursday, May 16, 2024, we built five plant filter islands at the 3M company Conference Center. Teams of „islanders”, i.e. students and teachers of primary and high schools in Wrocław (Szkoła Podstawowej nr 7, V Liceum Ogólnokształcące, XIV Liceum Ogólnokształcące) with their parents and the Water Institute team, showed great ingenuity and diligence in building the platforms that we brought to the banks of the Oder.
On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the authors of the islands and the inhabitants of Wrocław planted previously prepared plants on platforms and launched the islands on the river near Mosty Warszawskie and the Psie Pole weir. The entire event, including preparing the islands, planting plants and launching the islands, was an amazing experience, full of joy, creativity and fun.
Building social relationships, cooperation between generations and communities, the good of the environment, the river and us, the inhabitants of Wrocław, all this is possible with willingness, ideas, commitment, mutual respect and respect for the planet.
Currently we’re observing the growth of plants, examining water samples and the behavior of islands when the water level in the Oder river increases. We will inform you about further activities and progress, and we will publish the results of the research, social and educational project in October!
